CLOUDS WITHOUT WATER

CLOUDS WITHOUT WATER

Jude12-13 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

  • Have you noticed that there seems to be a lot of Christianity today that doesn’t look much like Christ?

  • Not considering the number of people… who gather in a number of places… in a number of service types and styles… but instead looking only at the way that people act and the things they either approve of or tolerate… it may be difficult to find those who are truly faithful… who is known as righteous… whose life speaks of Christ without saying a word.

  • Mind you that there is no shortage help with the pains of life… recovery from sin and shame… philanthropy and psychology abound and give an impression of religious conviction but fall short of the image God intends to portray in our lives.

  • “These spots in your feasts of charity”… what an interesting phrase. There are two words that frame the construct of this phrase (spilas agape)…properly translated into a common vernacular… they would say that “there are rocks in you godly love.”… Like rocks in the sea… unmoved and stuck in a place in spite of the movement around them.

  • Feeding themselves… or taking part in the fellowship of the righteous without respect or reverence for the object of their faith.

  • Clouds that look as if they could produce something… similar in every way to those with purpose… but empty and useless for anything but blocking out the life giving light that is intended to shine on the world.

  • Those with poor fruit or no fruit at all that would show the kind of tree God intended them to be… dried up and useless for anything but making a foaming and frothy fury of arguments to condone their own sinful desires and cover up their shame with self-righteousness.

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE WE DEAL WIITH?

  • Some who love the bonds of their marriage to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • Some who love the access to the Gospel of Christ but struggle with faithfulness to it.

  • Some who are not yet ready to be bound as the bride of Christ but don’t mind a dating relationship with a godly groom to make themselves look and feel better about who they are.

  • Some who see no point in the labor of love or the and even view a desire to settle into a choice as limiting or loony!

  • Some just hate for hates sake.

? WHAT IS IT THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE IN HOW SINCERE?     PEOPLE ARE ABOUT THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO CHRIST AND THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO HIS CHURCH?

IT’S NOT JUST IF WE LOVE HIM…. BUT WHY WE LOVE HIM MATTERS TO!

One thing I commonly say at a wedding ceremony is that “ you need to wake up every day and know that married is what you want and choose to be” because the day that you don’t … is the day that you won’t. Like any relationship there is a need be a cause that keeps us interested for the relationship to seem worthwhile. I have seen countless marriages fail because they were based on things that were unreliable or at least not durable enough to endure the tests of time and difficulties.

LOOKS & PHYSICAL ATTRACTIONS… age, health changes, wrinkles

MONEY AND POSESSIONS… never satisfy because they are never enough

SOCIAL STATUS… peer acceptance, because you’ve had children, it’s the right thing to do… don’t want to be alone.

If we are honest about things we must admit that as a whole… mankind is not good at relationships… with family, friends and even foreigners. A quick look at society will show you how people globally cannot get on the same page about anything… people locally cannot achieve a general respect for one another… and personally we don’t do much better with 7.6 million couples living together instead of making a lifelong marriage commitment and another ¾ million in the same boat with gender issues! It is easy to see the despair in our relationships and the lack of genuine commitment.

LET US LOOK TOGETHER AT GOD’S WORD FOR HELP WITH HOW TO FIND THE KIND OF MOTIVATION THAT WILL KEEP US CLOSE TO OUR PLACE IN CHRIST JESUS.

LOOK WITH ME AT PSALM 116:

Why stay in church… why stay committed… why endure tests… why not take the easy route… look and see why God DESERVES affections! See if you have a religion of attitude or gratitude!

1-8    WHAT HE DOES

  • Its voluntary!... and then come BECAUSE

  • God listened to you

  • Answered your prayers

  • Keeps you on the front burner

  • He heard your confession and responded in forgiveness

  • He has bailed you out … how many times?

  • He has helped you… not because you deserve it but G&M

  • Healed you from grief, sickness, danger, sorrow, loneliness etc

9-19  OUR RESPONSE

  • In the land of the living... “go before” ought to be show before

  • Keep faithful in difficult times

  • Keep faith above approval or argument

  • Be unreserved

  • Share the cup of salvation

  • Be pledged to God first in the witness of believers even unto death
